My AI receptionist is not answering calls

If calls aren't being picked up, it's almost always one of three things: receptionist is inactive, the phone number isn't connected, or business hours are misconfigured.

When calls aren't being picked up, the cause is almost always one of three things — your receptionist status is Inactive, your phone number isn't connected, or your business hours are configured to closed.

Walk through the fix

  1. 1Open the Overview page in your dashboard and confirm your receptionist status shows Active. If it shows Inactive, head to Receptionist Settings → Overview and finish any remaining setup steps.
  2. 2Open Receptionist Settings → Configuration and confirm your business phone number is shown correctly in the configuration sidebar.
  3. 3Open Receptionist Settings → Business Hours. If today is set to closed, the AI will not answer — flip today to open and save.
  4. 4If you're forwarding an existing number to Zevaux, confirm call forwarding is still active with your carrier. Forwarding sometimes resets after a phone change or update.

Test the fix by calling your Zevaux business number from a different phone. You should hear the AI greeting within two rings.
